4.31 Fire detection and alarm systems
4.31.1 Any building containing an occupancy classified:
a) F1, with a floor area of more than 500 m²; or
b) H1, H2, E2 or E3, irrespective of height or floor area, shall be equipped with a fire detection and alarm system, designed, installed and maintained in accordance with SANS 10139.
4.32 Provision and maintenance of fire-fighting equipment, installations and fire protection systems
4.32.1 Any fire-fighting equipment, installations and fire protection systems in any building shall be so installed and maintained in as to be ready at all times for its purpose.
4.32.2 The disposition of such fire-fighting equipment shall be clearly visible at all times or shall be indicated by symbolic signs which shall be visible at all times and comply with the requirements contained in SANS 1186-1.
4.32.3 The owner of any building shall keep available for inspection by the authority having statutory jurisdiction a record of the maintenance of fire-fighting equipment, installations and fire protection systems.

Fire Detection and alarm systems for hospitals.
4.2 Design
4.2.1 type M and L1 systems shall be installed throughout all parts of the hospital, with the exception of the following areas:
a) voids and roof spaces of any depth
b) bath/shower rooms
c) toilets in staff areas
d) cupboards less than 1
4.5. System control and display information:
4.5.1 Control and indicating equipment shall be provided at
a) the main entrance of the hospital
b) the entrance at which the fire brigade attends (if different from above)
c) a location that is supervised 24 hours.
